Pokhara, October 22: Pokhara Avengers have received a major boost ahead of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) Season 3, with Bangladesh star all rounder Shakib Al Hasan confirmed to be available for the entire tournament.
The franchise announced through its official Instagram account that Shakib is set to represent Pokhara Avengers throughout the season, putting an end to earlier uncertainty surrounding his availability due to other franchise cricket commitments.
Shakib's full season commitment is particularly significant for Pokhara, who will be looking to make a stronger impression after missing out on the playoffs in the league's first two editions. Having finished fifth in the 2025 season, the Avengers will be eager to turn their campaign around and secure a place in the knockout stage this time.
One of the most experienced all rounders in T20 cricket, Shakib brings considerable value with both bat and ball. His left handed batting provides depth and experience to the middle order, while his left arm orthodox spin offers Pokhara a reliable option during the middle overs. His ability to contribute in both departments could prove crucial in a competition where small margins often make the difference.
Under the leadership of captain Kushal Bhurtel and the guidance of head coach Ajantha Mendis, Pokhara have assembled an overseas group that offers considerable variety. Alongside Shakib, the franchise has brought in fellow Bangladesh all rounder Mahedi Hasan and Sri Lankan all rounders Dhananjaya Lakshan and Chamika Karunaratne.
The presence of multiple overseas all rounders gives the coaching staff greater flexibility when selecting their playing XI, allowing them to adjust their batting and bowling combinations according to match conditions.
Shakib's experience is another major asset. He has accumulated nearly 8,000 runs and more than 500 wickets in franchise T20 cricket. At the international level, he has represented Bangladesh in 129 T20 Internationals, scoring 2,551 runs and taking 149 wickets.
Beyond the numbers, his experience in high pressure T20 matches could be particularly valuable for Pokhara's younger domestic players, who will have the opportunity to share the dressing room with one of the most accomplished all rounders of his generation.
With Shakib now confirmed for the full campaign, Pokhara Avengers will not have to worry about managing his availability during the league stage. The focus will instead be on building a consistent playing combination and making the most of their strengthened overseas contingent.
The Avengers will begin their NPL 2026 campaign against defending challengers Sudurpaschim Royals on October 28 at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
For Pokhara, securing Shakib Al Hasan for the entire season could be one of the most important developments ahead of their pursuit of a maiden NPL playoff appearance.
