KATHMANDU, October 31: Chitwan Rhinos have strengthened their bowling attack with the signing of Pakistan international fast bowler Hasan Ali for the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
The 32-year-old right-arm fast bowler joins the Rhinos as another major overseas addition ahead of their NPL 2026 campaign. His signing brings international experience and proven wicket-taking ability to a bowling unit that already features several established overseas players.
Hasan Ali has represented Pakistan in 57 T20 Internationals, taking 72 wickets at an average of approximately 23.3. His best bowling figures in the format are 5/30, highlighting his ability to make an impact with the ball.
The Pakistani pacer first established himself on the international stage with outstanding performances in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. He finished as the tournament's leading wicket-taker with 13 wickets and was named Player of the Tournament after playing a crucial role in Pakistan's title-winning campaign, including the final against India.
Beyond international cricket, Hasan has gained considerable experience in franchise competitions, featuring in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Australia's Big Bash League (BBL) and the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). His experience across different conditions and T20 competitions could prove valuable for Chitwan during the tournament.
The signing adds further depth to an overseas contingent that already includes Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza, England all-rounder Ravi Bopara, Canada left-arm fast bowler Kaleem Sana and Pakistan leg-spinner Usama Mir.
Under head coach Sohail Tanvir, another former Pakistan international fast bowler, Chitwan will be hoping to develop a more effective bowling combination this season. Hasan's pace and experience, alongside Sana's left-arm variation and Usama Mir's leg-spin, provide the coaching staff with several options.
Captain Kushal Malla will lead a side that also retains an important domestic core, including Dev Khanal, Rijan Dhakal and Kamal Singh Airee. With experienced overseas players supporting the Nepali contingent, the Rhinos will be aiming for a more consistent campaign.
Chitwan finished seventh in the previous edition of the NPL after reaching the Eliminator in the inaugural 2024 season. The franchise will now be looking to improve on that performance and challenge for its first league title.
The Rhinos are scheduled to begin their NPL 2026 campaign against Biratnagar Kings on October 27 at 12:30 PM at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
With Hasan Ali joining an already experienced overseas group, Chitwan Rhinos have added another proven international performer to their squad. His ability to take wickets and deliver under pressure could become an important factor as the franchise looks to make a stronger push for the NPL title.
