KATHMANDU, October 31: Chitwan Rhinos have added another experienced Pakistan international to their squad, confirming the signing of all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz for the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
The left-handed batter and left-arm orthodox spinner brings valuable experience across all three formats of international cricket. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball makes him an important addition to Chitwan's overseas contingent as the franchise looks to build a balanced squad for the new season.
Nawaz has represented Pakistan in 98 T20 Internationals, scoring 911 runs and taking 101 wickets. He has also featured in six Test matches and 44 One-Day Internationals, giving him considerable experience at the international level.
His biggest strength lies in his versatility. With the ball, Nawaz offers a left-arm spin option capable of controlling the middle overs and breaking partnerships. With the bat, he can provide valuable contributions in the middle and lower order, making him a useful player in different match situations.
For Chitwan Rhinos, his arrival adds further depth to an overseas group that already features several experienced international players. The franchise will have greater flexibility when deciding its playing combination, particularly when balancing batting depth and bowling options.
Nawaz joins a team led by Nepal international Kushal Malla, with former Pakistan fast bowler Sohail Tanvir serving as head coach. Chitwan have been building their squad around a combination of established domestic players and experienced overseas signings as they look to improve their performance in the competition.
The Rhinos have previously shown their ability to compete in the knockout stages. In the inaugural NPL season in 2024, Chitwan qualified for the playoffs after collecting eight points from seven league matches. However, their campaign ended in the Eliminator, where they suffered defeat against Karnali Yaks.
The franchise also recorded an important milestone in the 2025 edition by securing its first-ever NPL victory against Karnali Yaks, although it subsequently suffered a six-wicket defeat against Lumbini Lions.
Chitwan will now be hoping that the addition of Nawaz and other experienced overseas players can help them deliver a more consistent campaign in Season 3.
With his international experience, left-arm spin and middle-order batting ability, Nawaz gives the Rhinos another valuable option as they pursue their first NPL title.
His exact role in the playing XI will depend on the team's final combination and match conditions, but his all-round capabilities could make him an important part of Chitwan's campaign.
