October 28, 2026: Sixteen-year-old fast bowler Rahul Yadav made a memorable start to his Nepal Premier League career, taking a wicket with his very first delivery for Janakpur Bolts and finishing with impressive figures of 2 for 15 in four overs.
The right-arm medium pacer from Chapur, Rautahat, delivered the standout performance during the third match of NPL Season 3 against Karnali Yaks at the TU International Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur on October 27. Janakpur won the toss and chose to field, bringing Yadav into the attack during the powerplay.
Yadav needed just one delivery to make his mark. He bowled Deepak Dumre, who had already struck two sixes, before returning later to dismiss Hussain Talat, who was caught by Anil Kumar Sah. His disciplined four-over spell helped restrict Karnali to 132 for 9 in 20 overs.
Janakpur, however, could not complete the chase and were bowled out for 113 in 19.3 overs, handing Karnali a 19-run victory.
From Madhesh Talent Hunt to the NPL Stage
Yadav's opportunity with Janakpur Bolts came through a talent hunt organised in Madhesh Province. He was identified during the trials and included in the franchise's development squad alongside other young players.
The franchise reportedly recognised his ability, fitness, hunger and determination during the selection process. Before earning his NPL opportunity, Yadav had featured in local competitions, including the Chandrapur Cricket League.
Born on May 24, 2010, in Chapur, Rautahat, Yadav is a right-handed batter and right-arm medium bowler. He also had a brief opportunity with the bat on debut, scoring an unbeaten one run from 10 deliveries while batting at No. 10.
Harmeet Singh Praises the Young Pacer
Janakpur Bolts captain Harmeet Singh spoke positively about Yadav's bowling after the match, highlighting his pace and deceptive skills. Singh suggested that batters unfamiliar with the young pacer's bowling could find his opening deliveries difficult to handle.
The captain also emphasised the importance of continued hard work and opportunities for Yadav, pointing to the value of bowlers who can generate pace for Nepal cricket.
Yadav's debut came in a team featuring experienced international players, including Moeen Ali and Hussain Talat. Despite sharing the dressing room and playing environment with established names, the teenager showed composure and made an immediate impact with the ball.
A Promising Start, with More to Prove
Taking a wicket with the first ball of an NPL career is a rare and memorable achievement. Yadav's figures of 2 for 15, including two important breakthroughs, made his debut particularly encouraging.
However, one performance is only the beginning. Consistent opportunities and performances in the matches ahead will be important in determining how quickly the young pacer develops at the professional level.
For Janakpur Bolts, Yadav's emergence through a regional talent hunt offers an encouraging example of how local scouting and development pathways can bring young players onto the national stage.
Janakpur, champions of the 2024 NPL, will continue their Season 3 campaign under captain Harmeet Singh, with Yadav among the young players looking to make the most of their opportunities.
