October 29, 2026: Karnali Yaks pulled off a thrilling four-wicket victory over Biratnagar Kings in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) Season 3, chasing down a target of 187 with just one ball remaining at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Thursday.
Captain Sompal Kami delivered a remarkable all-round performance, taking four wickets for 33 runs before smashing an unbeaten 62 off just 32 balls to guide his side home. His match-winning contribution came after Karnali had slumped to 57/5 during the chase.
Lokesh Bam's Explosive 87 Powers Biratnagar to 186
After being put in to bat, Biratnagar Kings posted 186/7 in their 20 overs, largely thanks to an outstanding innings from Lokesh Bam.
Bam smashed 87 off 52 deliveries, including three fours and nine sixes. He shared a 67-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Angelo Mathews, who contributed 31 off 22 balls.
Andre Russell added further momentum with a quick 27 off 15 deliveries, but Biratnagar lost wickets at regular intervals and could not push their total beyond 186.
Sompal Kami led Karnali's bowling attack with an impressive four-wicket haul, dismissing Bam, Mathews, Russell and Charith Asalanka. He finished with figures of 4/33 in four overs. Mark Watt and Nandan Yadav claimed one wicket each.
Bam's dismissal was particularly significant, as he fell just 13 runs short of becoming the first Nepali batter to score a century in NPL history.
Karnali Collapse Before Kami Leads the Recovery
Karnali's chase began disastrously as they lost five wickets for just 57 runs. Mark Watt, Dipak Dumre, Akbar Ali, Ariful Islam and Hussain Talat all departed early, leaving the Yaks under considerable pressure.
However, Kami refused to give up. He first combined with Pawan Sarraf for a crucial 66-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Sarraf contributed 36 off 28 balls before being dismissed.
Gulshan Jha then joined Kami, and the pair produced an unbeaten 64-run partnership to bring Karnali within reach of victory.
Kami remained unbeaten on 62 from 32 balls, striking at 193.75, while Jha contributed an unbeaten 28 off 21 deliveries. Their partnership turned a difficult chase into a memorable win.
Dramatic Final Over Seals the Victory
Karnali entered the final over needing eight runs to win. Kami and Jha kept their composure under pressure, collecting singles and twos before finishing the chase with a ball remaining.
A dropped catch by Lokesh Bam during the final over added to Biratnagar's frustration as Karnali completed the chase at 187/6 in 19.5 overs.
For Biratnagar, Angelo Mathews was the leading bowler with three wickets, while Charith Asalanka, Pratis GC and Sandeep Lamichhane took one wicket each.
Sompal Kami's Performance Defines the Match
Kami's contribution with both bat and ball proved decisive. He removed Biratnagar's three leading contributors — Bam, Mathews and Russell — before taking responsibility for Karnali's recovery with the bat.
His unbeaten 62, alongside Gulshan Jha's valuable contribution, helped Karnali overcome a difficult position and secure one of the most dramatic victories of the NPL 2026 campaign.
