KIRTIPUR, October 31, 2026: Biratnagar Kings registered their first victory of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2026 with a commanding 35-run win over Sudurpaschim Royals in a rain-reduced five-over contest at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Saturday.
After winning the toss, Sudurpaschim Royals elected to bowl first. However, Biratnagar's batters produced a spectacular power-hitting display, posting 105/2 in their allotted five overs.
Shehan Jayasuriya Leads Biratnagar's Explosive Batting
Shehan Jayasuriya was the star of the innings, smashing 39 runs off just 11 deliveries, including five sixes and two fours. His strike rate of 354.55 put the Royals' bowling attack under enormous pressure. Lokesh Bam added 25 runs from just 10 balls, while Andre Russell provided a powerful finish with an unbeaten 29 off 10 deliveries. Russell struck three sixes and two fours to help Biratnagar cross the 100-run mark.
For Sudurpaschim, Abinash Bohara claimed two wickets, conceding 28 runs in his two overs.
Sudurpaschim Royals Fall 35 Runs Short
Chasing a challenging target of 106 in just five overs, Sudurpaschim Royals managed 70/3. Scott Kuggeleijn top-scored with an unbeaten 28 off six deliveries, while Saif Zaib contributed 17 from 10 balls. However, the Royals could not match Biratnagar's explosive scoring rate.
Andre Russell, Angelo Mathews and Rupesh Singh picked up a wicket each to restrict Sudurpaschim to 70/3 and secure a 35-run victory.
Biratnagar Kings Open Their Winning Account
The victory gave Biratnagar Kings their first two points of the NPL 2026 season after defeats against Chitwan Rhinos and Karnali Yaks in their opening matches.
Jayasuriya's explosive innings and Russell's all-round contribution proved decisive as Biratnagar bounced back in style. The result also gave the Kings an important boost as they look to revive their campaign.
